This website is intended for the use of United States Coast Guard Auxiliary members of the First District, Northern Region. This website is presented by the D1NR QE Coordinator in an official capacity. Some (not all) official member information sourced from the USCG Auxiliary (particularly the AUXDATA information system) is subject to the Privacy Act of 1974. The disclosure of any of this material is subject to the provisions contained in the Privacy Act of 1974. Information voluntarily submitted by individuals on this website is not subject to the Privacy Act of 1974.

We collect no personal information about you when you visit our website unless you choose to provide this information to us. However, we collect and store certain information automatically. Here is how we handle information about your visit to our website.

What We Collect and Store Automatically

When you visit our website, our computers may automatically collect statistics about your visit. This information does not identify you personally, but rather identifies information about a visit to our website. We use these statistics about your visit for aggregation purposes only. These statistics are used to help us improve the performance of our website. We automatically collect and store only the following information about your visit:

  • The IP address from which you accessed our website (assigned by your ISP);

  • The type of web browser and host operating system used to access our website;

  • The date and time you access our website

  • The pages you visit (including time spent on each page)

  • If you linked to our website from another website, the URL of that referring website.

A "cookie" is a piece of information that our website sends to your web browser, which then stores that information on your system. If a cookie is used, our website will be able to "remember" information about you and your preferences until you exit your current web browser window (if the cookie is temporary) or until you disable or delete the cookie.

Many users prefer to use cookies in order to help them navigate a website as seamlessly as possible. You should be aware that cookies contain no more information than you volunteer, and they are not able to "invade" your hard drive and return to the sender personal or other information from your computer.

Temporary Cookies

If you log into the Discussion Forum, we set a temporary session cookie to establish that you have been authenticated. If you enter the Mail List Manager, we set a temporary session cookie to provide consistent context for any request made through the subscribe/unsubscribe pages. The information contained in these cookies consists of random data that is used by the server to authenticate the web browser requests to the server for that particular session. It does not include any type of personally identifiable information. This bit of information is erased when you close your current web browser window. If you choose not to accept a temporary cookie, you will not be able to navigate properly in these controlled sections.

Permanent Cookies

This type of cookie remains on your system, although you can always delete or disable it through your web browser preferences.  The only instance of a permanent cookie on this website is related to the Discussion Forum. We only send this type of cookie to your web browser when you have clicked on the box labeled "Log me on automatically each visit" when logging in. Your web browser may also give you an option to save registration login information; this is not a feature of our website and is not under our control.

If you choose not to accept the cookie, you will still be able to use our website.  Even if you choose to receive this type of cookie, you can generally set your web browser to notify you when you receive any cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether to accept it in each situation in which one is sent.

If You Send Us E-mail, Make a Suggestion, Submit a Problem Report

You may choose to provide us with personal information in e-mail or a form with a comment or question. We use the information to improve our service to you or to respond to your request. Sometimes we forward your e-mail to other Auxiliary members who may be better able to help you. However, it is the nature of e-mail that protection, distribution, and forwarding cannot be guaranteed once a message is outside the sender's control.

Use of Discussion Forum and related tools

If you use a forum, bulletin board, chat room or other chat tool on this website, you should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit there can be read, collected, or used by other users of these forums, and could be used to send you unsolicited messages.  We are not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit in these forums.  You are also responsible for using these forums in a manner consistent with the  terms and conditions set forth on the relevant forum.

Efforts have been made to limit registration to authorized USCG Auxiliary members, and to limit viewing of profiles to registered members. Some portions of registration information (particularly, member number) are only available to authorized administrators, and the information is only used to validate USCG Auxiliary membership or to provide problem support (looking up information in AUXDATA, for example, in response to a request).

Registration and submission of any information is voluntary.

Mail List Manager

The mail list manager service provided on this website is updated periodically from USCG Auxiliary official data sources. As such, the information is very specifically controlled by the Privacy Act of 1974 and may be used only for official USCG Auxiliary business.

Access to outgoing mailings is controlled to authorized originators. Only e-mail addresses and mail list subscription (generally, level of surface operations qualification) is retained in a database not directly accessible from the web. No other personal information of any kind is collected or stored. Every message includes embedded links to allow a recipient to unsubscribe from any or all mailings. (Note that new updates from AUXDATA may override those requests periodically as surface qualification level changes.) This website also offers a link to the mail list manager so that embedded links in e-mails are not the only access to subscription/unsubscription requests.

A record of bounced or rejected e-mail is maintained for the purpose of automatically removing recipients whose e-mail addresses consistently fail. A record of outgoing messages and recipients is maintained.  Requests for subscriptions will be periodically validated against AUXDATA-stored e-mail addresses. The mail list manager function is not directly associated with or connected to other functions on this website (such as the discussion forum).

Password-Protected Document Areas

Some of the documents on this site, under the Privacy Act of 1974, can only be made available to authorized users for authorized purposes. Any attempt (successful or unsuccessful) to log in to the protected area or to fetch protected documents collects the username and the originating IP address of the attempt. For authorized users, this does record the fact that you logged in (e.g. is personally-identifiable information). There are no sensitive or secure documents stored on this website, only documents that might include just enough personal information about a member or members that the Privacy Act of 1974 applies.

Links to Other Sites

Our website has many links to government and private organizations (particularly for retrieval of documents on the Downloads page). When you follow a link to another site, you are no longer on our website and are subject to the privacy policy of the new site.
